Over 615 million electronic health records have been processed through the National Health Information System (NHIS). The platform processes nearly 3 million requests daily, or an average of 150 requests per second. This was announced by Milla Filipova, Product Manager at Information Services, during the 15th edition of the "Doctors We Trust" ceremony organized by 24 Chasa. The event was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rosen Zhelyazkov, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Health Committee, Prof. Dr. Kostadin Angelov, Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Silvi Kirilov, NHIF Director Assoc. Prof. Petko Stefanovski, representatives of professional organizations, over 800 doctors, and others.
"Healthcare digitalization is not an easy process. Thanks to the tireless work of doctors, today we have a real, live, reliable, integrated, and modern National Health Information System that unites all participants in the health ecosystem and which stands on par with, and in some areas even exceeds its European counterparts," stated Filipova. According to her, all these processes generate vast amounts of medical data, as well as more complete and organized electronic health records.
Data shows that over 21,000 doctors actively use the eRx mobile application, with over 2.5 million electronic “white” prescriptions issued through it. General practitioners have access to the entire medical history of their patients through the doc.his.bg platform, while the number of citizens actively using the eZdrave mobile application has tripled in the last year, reaching 240,000.
The development of the NHIS continues with the digitalization of additional processes in the Hospital Care sector. The expansion of the "Long-Term Care" module is forthcoming in order to enable more structured monitoring of chronic diseases, better prevention efforts, and improved health literacy among citizens. "The National Health Information System is fully technologically ready for integration with the European Health Data Space," Milla Filipova added.
