The total number of electronic, so called "white", prescriptions issued today through the National Health Information System (NHIS) has exceeded 13 thousand. According to the amendment to Ordinance No. 4 of 2009 on the conditions and procedure for prescribing and dispensing medicinal products, from today - October 16, 2023, all medications for treatment of diabetes and antibacterial medicinal products for systemic use, are prescribed only by electronic prescriptions.
The data shows that so called "white" prescriptions issued by doctors today, exceed 12,500, and those from dental specialists are nearly 700. For comparison, in the last month, when the amendment in Ordinance 4 had not been yet entered into force, less than 200 on average, have been issued per day. Since the launch of the system in December 2020, nearly 40 million e-prescriptions have been issued, but only 50 thousand of them were “white” prescriptions. The issuance of an electronic prescription does not cancel the visit to the doctor, as the prescription of medications is carried out after a physical examination.
Over 1000 electronic prescriptions have been successfully generated through the eRx mobile application today. The new version 1.2 of the application, allows dentists and veterinarian practitioners also to issue e-prescriptions. This became possible when less than a week the team of Information Services managed to integrate the current registers of dentists and veterinarian practitioners to the NHIS and the platform for mobile issuance of electronic prescriptions.
Through the mobile application, medical specialists can prescribe an electronic prescription any time and from anywhere. The issued prescription immediately goes into the patient's electronic medical record and can be fulfilled by any pharmacy. The aim of the mobile application is to facilitate doctors, dentists and veterinarian practitioners in issuing electronic prescriptions in cases when they do not have an access to a computer with a medical software.
The mobile application eRx can be downloaded for free from Google Play and App Store. For Android devices that have official and full access to Google Play Services, the new version 1.2 of the application is now available and can be used by doctors, dentists and veterinarian practitioners, and for those who use iOS mobile devices, it is expected to be approved by the App Store at any time.
Detailed information and instructions about the use of eRx can be found on the following page: https://his.bg/erx/. The team of Information Services is available at any time during the day to phone line: 070014220 and email: [email protected], in order to assist medical specialists who might have any difficulty with the application.
