Vaccination certificates could be reissued via the NHIS website from June 4, 2021

All citizens who have already received a certificate for completed vaccination cycle against COVID-19 can reissue the document in EU format on the website of the National Health Information System www.his.bg, in "Me and my family" section. As part of efforts to accommodate citizens, Information Services is developing a feature that allows owners of the old version of the certificate to get a document, which complies with the European Commission regulation, without the need for a qualified electronic signature (QES). Vaccineers are expected to be able to download the new format after June 4, 2021.

"The reissue of the old version of the certificate in the new format via the NHIS website is for the convenience of citizens and will save them time to visit GPs or vaccination centers and avoid overcrowding," the Information Services’ CEO Ivaylo Filipov said. He added that it will be possible to save the digital certificate directly on a mobile device or laptop, which will facilitate vaccinatied in case of certificate check by authorized bodies.

Every citizen who already has a certificate will have the option to obtain a digital version of the new European format by entering personal ID number (PIN), identity card number and national reference number (NRN) of one of the two vaccines enlisted in the old document. The NRN is located in the lower left corner of the old certificate. Foreign citizens should fill their foreigner identity number and the number of the document for permanent residence in Bulgaria. The system will allow the download of the document only if entered data is complete and filled in correctly.

Citizens who have passed the full vaccination cycle for immunization against COVID-19, but have not yet received their certificate, can get it through the electronic medical file of the patient, which is accessible with a QES via www.his.bg, from their GP or the vaccination center that has administered the vaccine. The certificate can be printed colour or black and white. The new format is folded in four, so that the bulk of the personal data is on the inside of the paper to protect the owner's personal information. The document can also be saved as a PDF file, which allows it to be printed later or stored on a mobile device.
