Information Services demonstrates an online train tickets booking system

Information Service JSC demonstrated the Centralized Online Train Tickets Booking System to the Prime Minister Mr. Boiko Borisov and to Mr. Ivaylo Moskovski, the Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications.

This happened during the official opening of the railway sections Dimitrovgrad - Simeonovgrad, Lyubimets - Greek border and Railway Station Lyubimets. The contracting authority was BDZ Passenger Services Ltd. The project was assigned by public procurement.

The system will be used by the railway stations and railway bureaus in Bulgaria and will also allow buying tickets from a ticket-examiner on the train. It is fully accessible online and allows the purchase of tickets from any point of the world. The application serves all train destinations in Bulgaria.

The centralized application will replace the current ticket buying system that has been used by the national rail carrier for more than 20 years.

This system will improve the quality of booking and buying train tickets by the clients of the national rail carrier. There are options for issuing different kinds of tickets - a standard ticket for 1 or more passengers, a small group, family ticket, credit ticket, fines, etc.; choice of a route "from - to" with an option for one-way or two-way trip; choice of a train/ trains; choice of class, reserved seat according to the client's preferences, applying discount by a railway card, ticket for transportation of a bicycle or a pet.

Using this system will improve the work of all employees of the company and will enable reporting of sales and the number of passengers in real time. It meets the requirements of the National Revenue Agency for integrated automated system for management of sales and is directly connected with the National Revenue Agency.

Passengers who get on the train from rails stations and stops without a ticket office may purchase a ticket through this system from the ticket-examiner in the train. The ticket issuing in the train is done via mobile Internet connection to a central server. It is made through a mobile device - a tablet and a mobile printer for printing tickets. All data are stored on the host server and the tablet serves only as an access point.

The centralized system provides opportunity for control on the part of the ticket-examiner in the train. In case of a passenger without ticket, it is used for issuing both a ticket to such person and a fine according to the tariffs of BDZ Passenger Services Ltd.

Every act of employees who work with this system is registered and is subject to tracking. Ticket validation will allow the Internal Control Unit of BDZ Passenger Services to improve control on the performance of the formal duties of ticket-examiners.
